Dr. Strange

images-3is definitely nothing if not visually stunning. It’s also stunning the box office with over $600 million worldwide. It stars one of my faves, Rachel McAdams.
Tilda Swinton is great in it. This is definitely one for the big screen. If you get a small screen like I did definitely try and catch it on a big one instead. There’s definitely going to be a second go round for me for this movie because of that and all of the metaphysical nuggets of wisdom.

Oscars 2016

Well, the verdict is in for this year’s tense close race for Best Picture.

Spotlight won Best Picture this awards season.

I’m happy it won. It’s an important film. I’ve watched it twice already. The most moving part for me is the final rolling credits. Astounding. Overwhelming. Heartbreaking.

Also glad Room got recognition.

Was looking for love for Carol and of course for my favorite movie last year, The Martian.

Here’s to next year…

Host Chris Rock was himself and that is what was most impressive. He had a difficult job.

2016 Golden Globes Nominations

The nominations are in for the Golden Globes and differ a bit from SAG’s nominations.

Glad to see The Martian is nominated here although unsure why it’s in the comedy category.

Also happy for Viola Davis, Regina King, Taraji P. Henson and Queen Latifah.

Who’s seen 50 Shades of Grey?

I appreciate the controversy surrounding it.
This was a good movie primarily because of Dakota Johnson’s performance.
It was solid story telling, enough so to make me want to learn more about the title character Christian Grey. Books(s)here I come. Johnson’s performance inspires the compassion required for the theme of sadomasochism via Anastasia’s point of view.

Also, I love that one of my favorite TheWeeknd songs, Earned It, is in this film!
It’s placement was the perfect topping for this dark, erotic romance.

Here are 5 movies from the past that I love.

images1- E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial – Fantasy/Sci-Fi

How can you not love this movie?!

It’s got an adorable creature, a cute little boy who loves it dearly while everyone else freaks out about it and oh yeah, that Spielberg guy directs.

As an animal lover this movie is one of my favorites and Drew Barrymore almost steals the show from E.T.

“E.T. phone hooomme!” – E.T.

2- ALIENS – Sci-Fi/Horror

I know I mentioned this in a later post but I love this movie! It is just so awesome. The storyline, the action, the suspense, the horror of the aliens, the awesomeness of the aliens’ physical characteristics, the sound effects, the visuals and especially Sigourney Weaver’s acting.

I mean she’s acting to green screen a lot and you really believe these big, horrid creatures are after her, the crew and Newt. I watch this every time I come across it on TV. Always. To the end, saying all of Newt’s lines as I go.

“They mostly come at night, mostly.” – Newt

3- THE NOTEBOOK – Romance

Ok, I mostly just love Ryan Gosling’s and Rachel McAdams’ performances in this. Their chemistry is great. Ryan is just perfection in this. I love love stories! The lake scene is to die for.

“If you’re a bird, I’m a bird.” – Noah

4- LADY SINGS THE BLUES – Drama/Musical

This is the movie that inspired me to act. Diana Ross is just amazing in this role as Billie Holiday. And Billy Dee Williams? Well, let’s just say- sigh. He is so handsome and charming and just well, delicious in this.

“Give it to me! Give it-” – Billie Holiday

5- THE WAY WE WERE – Romance

Barbra Streisand! Need I say more? Another love story. I love this movie and I love Babs!

“She’s beautiful, Hubbell.” – Katie

Bonus movie- Terminator 2: Judgment Day – Action/Sci-Fi

I first saw this in the second row with THX sound blasting on a gigantic screen at the Cinerama Dome/Arclight Theatre.

The scene where they are being chased in the big truck was overwhelming and so fantastic. All of the special effects, especially with T-1000, were awe inspiring! Linda Hamilton and Joe Morton and S. Epatha Merkerson were so good in this! This is another movie I always watch to the end no matter when I come across it on TV. I just saw this again this past week.

“I’ll be back.”- The Terminator
